The Raid on Sherwood Peak is a mixed terrain race consisting of a fifty-two or sixty mile route over unmaintained county dirt roads, dirt and gravel logging roads of up to a 4” base. There will be roughly 6,000 feet of vertical climbing on the fifty mile route. 1/5 of the route is on public property and 4/5 is on private timber company property. The route is either going up or down, there's very little flat ground, about 10% on the short course and even less on the longer route.
The overall aim is to bring mountain bike racers, people who race cyclocross and road racers together on the same course and attempt to neutralize any advantage one particular group may have over another with the goal being a fun competitive atmosphere for all. An MTB is the ideal weapon.
Civilized 9am start time! There will be a neutral roll out/promenade through downtown Ft. Bragg and the adjoining neighborhood to the base of the first climb at which point it's game on. This year we are also considering a fire road start, more on that later.
The event is fully permitted and insured. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Mendocino Coast Cyclists to develop and improve singletrack in the area. A post-race party/BBQ buffet will ensure that racers get their calories for the day in both solid and liquid form. We have FREE CAMPING at the finish line, which is also the venue for the post race BBQ. Seating for 200+ so bring your family.

Other hotels to stay at are:
America’s Best Value Inn
Clean and spacious rooms. Good water pressure in shower. Pool and hot tub.
-
Surf Motel
Clean and inexpensive. No pool or hot tub.
-
Holiday Inn Express
More expensive than the others but they have the best pool and the hot tub is huge. The free breakfast is also the best one and they have the famous “pancake copy machine”. Really… you press the start button and it prints pancakes.
Check hotels.com for more options too. These are just the ones I have stayed at and can say were clean.
